ICM Combined Regional Conference, Dubai 6-9 September 2018

Wednesday, 11/07/2018

Welcome midwives of the world to the International Confederation of Midwives regional conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

We come together in Dubai to meet with fellow midwives from around the Western Pacific, South-East Asia and Eastern Mediterranean regions.

This year our theme aligns with ICMs 2017-2020 Strategy that focuses on Quality, Equity and Leadership.

The conference theme is “Midwives leading the way for quality and equity”. Each day will focus on quality, equity and leadership.

Women and their families have a fundamental human right of access to midwives as the health professionals most equipped to support them with respectful, individualised and high-quality care throughout the childbirth continuum.

As the global representative organization for midwives, ICM is committed to leading the way in advocacy efforts to raise demand for midwives and to advocate for equitable access to midwife-led services for women, because we know that midwives are the key to improving health outcomes for women and their newborns during childbirth.

By hosting a regional conference, ICM aims to support equitable access to ICM resources and information for its Member Associations the Western Pacific, South-East Asia and Eastern Mediterranean regions. We welcome midwives from these regions to share their experience, wisdom, aspirations and knowledge to Lead the way for quality and equity.

Your presence here signifies the importance of unity, leadership, and equitable representation not only for midwives, but for the women and newborns whose lives are forever changed by the care of midwives like you.

We invite you to participate at this conference to learn, share, and reflect on how we provide high quality midwifery care in our regions, to showcase the improvements we have made in the last triennium and to plan together to how we will continue to strengthen midwifery in the Western Pacific, South-East Asia and Eastern Mediterranean regions.

We look forward to your participation at this important event and to planning the way forward for all midwives in these regions.
