The International Midwifery Scientific Conference - International Day of The Midwife

Every year on May 5th the world celebrate as International Day of The Midwife (IDM) where internationally midwives, all over place include Indonesia, embrace the individual midwife development their professional skills through many activities with aims to strengthen the network within midwives as well as other professions to enlarge the knowledge and skills of midwives inselfs.


In order to commemorate IDM 2018, Indonesian Midwives Association (IMA/IBI) in collaboration with Integrated Midwives Association of the Philippines (IMAP) will held an INTERNATIONAL MIDWIFERY SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE ON CELEBRATING THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE MIDWIFE 2018, it will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia on May 3rd up to May 5th, 2018. The International Midwifery Scientific Conference is a scientific forum aimed to improve knowledge and skills of midwives in optimizing the quality care of maternal & child health, and family planning. This conference, also, as an opportunity to facilitate researchers and scientists in midwifery field to conduct scientific discussions on developments, as well as current issues related with Maternal and Child Health services at national
and global context.


More than 800 midwives, of whom nearly 250 midwives from the Philippines were present to celebrate International Midwife Day at Novotel Mangga Dua Square Hotel, Jakarta yesterday. The event was opened by Mrs. Chairman of Indonesian Midwives Association, Dr. Emi Nurjasmi, M.Kes and welcome from Executive Director IMAP, Inc, Ms. Patricia M.Gomex, RM. Subsequently, the event was continued with materials from various countries who filled the International Midwifery Conference, among others:

- The Role of Midwives in Improving Family Health through Healthy Lifestyle Community Movement (GERMAS)
Yuti Suhartati, S.Kp., M.Kes - Head of Center for Quality Improvement of Health Human Resources (Ka Puskatmut SDMK) represented the Minister of Health RI that was unable to attend

In addition to parallel sessions and panels, there was a scientific session attended by 87 titles of participants of Oral Scientific Publications and Posters. After going through the selection process, 33 Oral Presentations were selected to present their research results as well as 46 titles of Presentation Poster poster displayed at the exhibition area during the conference.



Midwives are health professionals who have the primary task of providing obstetric care and women's reproductive health to individuals, families and communities. In providing these services, both client and midwife in question should receive legal protection.
